1-1 leadership coaching

Most managers were promoted for being good at the job. Not for leading.

The step from doing the work to leading the people is the hardest one in any career, and the least supported. Ploomo’s coaching is the deep work behind it: a structured program of one-to-one sessions, senior, personal, and built around the real situations your leaders are facing right now.

The pivot

You promote your best people, then hope they work it out.

You take your strongest individual performer, make them a manager, and leave them to figure out the rest. Most do, slowly, at the cost of a few good people and a lot of stress along the way.

The skills that made someone great at the job are not the skills that make them great at leading it. The two are barely related, and almost no one is taught the difference. Middle managers are often the most under-invested layer of leadership in a business, and the most critical to its momentum.

Every career hits this point. What gets built next decides which line they follow, and coaching is how you build it deliberately.

How it works

Deep work, not a workshop.

Not a course, a webinar, or a slide deck. A structured program of one-to-one coaching with senior people who have built and run teams, focused on the decisions your leaders are facing this week.

01

Eight sessions, one on one.

Eight 45-minute sessions, fortnightly across three to four months, with a dedicated senior coach. Two of them are with founder Josh del Rio.

02

Support when it’s live.

Real situations don’t wait for the next session. On-demand 20-minute calls for guidance while something is actually happening.

03

A direct line between sessions.

A dedicated Slack or Teams channel for quick questions, context, and check-ins with their coach.

04

Tools that make it stick.

Tools, prompts and guided reflection between sessions, chosen for the situations they’re working through, so new habits hold.

Growth themes can be shaped with you or your HR lead at the start, so the coaching pulls in the direction the business needs.

What changes

Leadership you can see in the room.

01
Hard conversations, held well

They stop avoiding the difficult ones, and have them with strength and care.

02
Standards, without friction

They raise the bar and hold people to it, without losing the team’s trust.

03
Every direction handled

They manage relationships up, across, and down, instead of only managing down.

Better leaders make better hires and keep better people. The work compounds long after the program ends.

Who it’s for

For the people carrying the weight.

01
Emerging leaders

At the centre of execution: leading a team for the first time while answering to the stakeholders above them. The early habits set the tone for years.

02
Founders and execs

Carrying a lot, with few people they can think out loud with honestly.

03
Senior leaders

Good at the job already, and wanting to get sharper rather than coast on it.

Who’s behind it

Coaching from people who have sat in the seat.

Josh del Rio became Deputy CEO of a $1bn hedge fund at 29 and has been in boardrooms since he was 26. He has spent his career building businesses by getting the best out of people and teams, and has coached hundreds of leaders and founders on leading under pressure.

And it isn’t a solo act. He leads a team of senior coaches who deliver every program together: a dedicated coach for each leader, support between sessions whenever something is live, and Josh in every program directly. The result is one standard of coaching, not one person’s capacity.

Working with Josh del Rio has been transformative for my leadership journey. His mentorship and guidance helped me develop the skills needed to create a great culture and a better working environment for my team.

Mark Woodruff

During our one-on-one discussions, he pushed me to think more critically and at different levels and leveraged Ploomo to gain a deeper understanding of my team dynamics. Josh proved to be a great mentor who brought out the best in me.
